The new book – “Torment”- in the “Fallen series by Lauren Kate, took me by surprise. I read “Fallen” (the first in the series) quite a while back and as much as I enjoyed the story, it felt as though it ended just as it began.

To say that the wait for the next in the series was a long one, would be an understatement. But now that I have read it, however, I can say that it was worth every minute.

The series follows the story of Luce, a young girl who has found herself in the midst of the battle between Good and Evil – Angels and Demons – and Daniel, the Fallen Angel who has been through a lot to keep her safe.

In “Fallen”, Luce discovers that she is a big part of an ongoing fight and that Daniel, the mysterious boy that she feels somehow connected to, is more than just an Fallen Angel, but that he is the love of her life. Although Luce cannot remember it, Daniel and Luce go far back and have been through the phenomenon of ‘Love at First Sight’ over and over again. But this time it is very  different.

In “Torment”, we learn more about the world of the Fallen Angels and Demons, about the ‘shadows’ that follow Luce and of the lives that Luce and Daniel have had to endure.

The story is heart-wrenching, with moments where you want to pull your hair out in frustration and ones where you are filled with the warmth that only a well written supernatural love story can bring.

If you haven’t read the series yet, now is a good time to start. This is one of those stories that you can share with your friends and you can all wait in anticipation for the next book in the series together.

I’m glad it’s worth the wait, I’m having to dig back into the archives of my brain to remember what happened in Fallen (the problem with reading too many books of a similar genre!). Thanks for the review, I’ll definitely be making sure I get around to reading it :o)
