Friday Funnies :)

So Ducky and I want to move out. The idea of it gets me so excited, it’s ridiculous. I just wish that things were a bit more simple sometimes. It could be great if we could just find a place right away and be in our own little place by December.

Even though we might starve to death, have no luxuries what-so-ever and I might have to go home to do my laundry, it would be loads of fun. Ducky and I have this unspoken type of connection thing. We just get each other because our minds function the same, so to be honest I couldn’t think of a better roomie :)

Hopefully this will all just work out magically, like things often do, and we’ll have a place soon enough!

Anyway, enough thinking and worrying for a Friday morning!

Talk about seeing the positive?

Double Standards for Young Hollywood?

I just read a very interesting post on the Twilight Lexicon website. The post refers to an article on Yahoo Movies, which talks about the double standards of young celebs. It focuses on Taylor Lautner and Miley Cyrus, and the sexualization of these young stars.

The article says:

“Remember the huge uproar in April 2008, when 15-year-old Miley Cyrus appeared in “Vanity Fair” wrapped in a sheet, with her right shoulder and the top of her back visible, implying that, under the sheet, she wasn’t wearing a shirt? That week, the cover of the New York Post read “Miley’s Shame,” the Christian Coalition called for the Hannah Montana star’s employer, Disney, to reprimand the teenager, and finally Miley was forced to apologize in a statement to People Magazine, saying: “I never intended for any of this to happen, and I am truly sorry if I have disappointed anyone.” The pandemonium was so huge that critics ranging from the ladies of “The View”, to Bill O’Reilly, to Miley’s fellow Disney star Joe Jonas all expressed their disapproval over what they saw as the sexualization of a child to sell magazines.”

“Now, with the premiere of his movie, “The Twilight Saga: New Moon,” less than a month away, magazines, websites, and TV are blanketed with images of 17-year-old star Taylor Lautner, shirtless and showing off the body he trained for months to perfect for the role. And yet, none of the cultural critics who turned Miley’s photos into a full-blown “scandal” have said a word about the sexualization of Taylor, who, at 17, is just two years older than Miley was during her “scandal” and is also a minor. So, does Hollywood have a double standard?”

You can read the rest of the article here.

Taylor Lautner Shirtless for New Moon

Taylor Lautner Shirtless for New Moon

I feel quite strongly about this whole thing and that is why I felt the need to post it. It creeps me out that there are a whole bunch of older women perving over 17 year old Taylor.  I am 22 and those 5 years are a big enough difference that I can’t even look at his abs and think “yummy”. It’s creepy… he’s a kid, albeit a good-looking one, but still a kid! It’s one thing to think he is cute and another thing to perve. But at the same time the majority of the people looking at his abs are girls his age and even younger. The majority of ‘Twilight’ fans are in his age group, maybe a bit older.

With Miley there is a difference.

Miley Cyrus in Vanity Fair

Miley Cyrus in Vanity Fair

These photo’s are much more suggestive. She is wearing a sheet. That is sexual and 15 year old boys aren’t the ones reading Vanity Fair. There is something wrong with having sexual photos taken and put in a magazine aimed for an adult audience. There are perverted pedophiles out there!

So yes there are double standards, but their two cases are also too different to compare!

What do you guys thing?

New Moon Video on CGI & the Wolves :)

I know my OCD had reached new heights but I can’t help it… and why should I? I’m happy! :)

Anyway, here’s the exclusive footage from the Scream Awards 2009. It’s all about the wolves! Team Jacob all the way…lol.

*WARNING* I’m Feeling Incredibly Negative!

Yesterday ANC Youth League Chair, Thebe Meeko said, with regards to Professor Johnathan Jansen (rector of the University of the Free State), “He should be shot and killed because he is a racist!” Seriously?? We cannot afford to have another idiot in the ANC Youth League, talking utter crap!

Even if he is a complete racist, which there is no proof of, does that really mean he should die??? Racism is disgusting but to be honest it’s near as bad as killing a man, or raping a women or a baby. You don’t hear people picketing for all those sick demented murderer’s and rapists to be killed!

I mean, you’ve got Donovan Moodley saying he should be released early because he only killed Leigh Matthews because he had to – he didn’t want to. (FOR CRYING OUT LOUD! It doesn’t matter, you idiot, you chose to kill her!! No matter what your reasons behind it were!!!!).

And what about the corrupt officials, should they be shot and killed?? They are stealing our money. They are allowing people to starve, all the while they sit, as fat cats, sucking up all our hard earned money! But no, they do not deserve to be killed! As humans everyone has the right to life and I agree with that. Then this stupid idiot just stands up there and gets the idea to shoot an innocent man into the heads of all the other stupid people! What is this world coming too??

It’s hate speech. I really hope that someone does something about this guy! He is a complete TWAT!! I am so tired of all of this crap. It’s too much. I am really battling to be positive about this country at the moment and as much as I love it, the people, the weather, the braais, the cultures, the smiles, the memories, the potential, the beauty… I hate the corruption, the idiots, the utter disrespect for everyone else, the power hungry fools, the terrible service delivery, the thievery from the poor, the suffering, the anger, the hate speech, the racism, high call costs, high electricity costs, crap internet connectivity – it is almost impossible to ignore all of it!

I hate being so negative but sometimes I just can’t force myself to focus on the good, to see the potential. Sometimes I just want to run away screaming!!

Sorry for ranting guys, I’m just having a negative day. I will feel better about it all soon, I’m sure!

I need chocolate…. and lots of it!!

The Highly Anticipated “Gamer”, a disappointment?

Once again the stupid people were all over the road this morning! There was an accident on the N1 (Oh, the shock!) and the traffic was backed up really badly due to these damn roadworks.  (If there were no roadworks, there would be a yellow lane for things like broken down cars and bumper bashings!) Now instead of waiting their turn there are all these damn people in their damn cars who, for some reason only known to them, are lead to believe they are extremely special and can therefore drive in the lane which has been closed off, due to  the road works. They eventually reach a point where they realize that the lane becomes a barrier and they then proceed to push themselves in front of everyone else, therefore us, in the normal, functioning lane, do not move! It is such a wonderful way to start off the week!!

Anyway, enough ranting about the stupid people surrounding us! Me and Mr. Perfect watched ‘Gamer’ this weekend (the new Gerard Butler action film) and I thought I should warn you – What a load of shit! Seriously, it was so disgusting. I was extremely disappointed because the trailer really didn’t give you a real idea of what the movie is about.

Yes, there is a new technology formulated to allow someone to control your actions. They use this for a game called ‘Slayers’, where death row prisoners can be controlled by a player and if they manage to win 30 battles they are set free. The Slayers action hero, Kable (Gerard Butler) is the first to reach the 30th battle, alive and obviously the evil man, Ken Castle (Michael C. Hall), who created the technology, does not want him to succeed as he can reveal secrets that would make people realize the extent of this technology and the control he has over it all.

Now that all sounds pretty cool, right? Well what they don’t mention in the trailer is the first game invented, ‘Socialite’. A game like ‘Sims’ where real people are controlled. It is like sex, drugs and rock and roll on steroids with dirty perverted men getting off, while playing with half naked women! It’s utterly revolting, I literally had to try not to puke. I was shocked. I actually felt violated, to be completely honest.

I don’t know why I stayed throughout the movie, it was like I really needed to see what happens but the eneding wasn’t even anything spectacular. So all-in-all, in my oppinion, it was a bunch of crap which totally makes the human race out to be some kind of sick masochistic society. But maybe I’m just being a bit melodramatic. What did everyone else think?

Anyhoo…. on a good note. I got my New Moon Soundtrack on Friday and it is really awesome! I love the indie rock feel that it has going :) My absolute favourite song off the album is ‘Satellite Heart’ by Anya Marina.

I also read a new romcom book called “Letters to a Love Rat” by Niamh Greene. It was a cute romcom, about three heartbroken women and one heartbreaking man. Eve is trying to get over Charlie by writing him letters – her therapist’s idea. Julie is sleeping with a married man and blogging about it, while Molly’s husband leaves her right after their honeymoon and she is left to think about a certain ex-boyfriend/soulmate.

It is perfect, if you’re looking for a quick read which will make you smile, laugh and lift the spirits!

Anyway, enough reviews. I better get to work!

Happy Monday everyone!! :)

New Moon Clip – Jake & Paul’s Tranformation

I just had to share this… it’s too cool!

Eventful Morning

It has been quite an eventful morning. I was running about 10 minutes late and naturally that means that the traffic was 10x worse. I have been taking my friend (I shall call he Ducky from now on…) to work in the mornings, due to the fact that some retard bashed her parked, very new, sexy, silver BMW and it is in the process of being fixed.

So we were driving merrily along in the traffic talking about God alone knows what and some stupid chick decides that she can no longer tell the difference between her brake and her accelerator and just drives right into me.

As I got out the car I really though that today would be the day I snap, the day I kill myself a stupid person, but as I ignored her apologies and checked the backside of my car, which I love dearly, I realized that there was absolutely nothing wrong! There was nothing wrong with hers either. At that point I just looked at her, smiled and said, “Oh, well all is ok then”. I then got back in my car, where the traffic had not even moved, and continued merrily along :)

Me and Ducky thought this was rather funny and it definitely reminded us of the truck incident a while back, which happened in her car and was much more scary! So once again I am loving the fact that I drive my old little car, which is built like a bumper car :)

It’s Unfair!

I have always been a home body. When I was in high school and varsity, I never really felt the need for independence. Recently though, this has changed. I can’t wait. I want to have my own space and I desperately want to travel. There is so much going on all around the world that,  when living in South Africa, we don’t get to be a part of.

My travelling desires, at the moment, seem to be triggered by the books I read. As I read more books, I want to go to new places. It started with “Eat, Pray, Love”. After that book I just really wanted to go to Bali (I still do). Then it was the “Born In” trilogy and Ireland (which I still really, really want to see – P.S. I Love You didn’t help either!).

Now, since The Twilight obsession, I desperately want to travel to the states. It’s driving me crazy! I’m realizing more and more, now, that even though I love this country with all of my heart, there is so much going on that we just don’t get to be a part of.

I imagine living in the states and being able to see my favourite bands perform, or to go to conventions and book signings. So often lately I find myself thinking It’s not fair! And with that, I irritate myself because it is unlike me and because I feel like a whiny, sulky kid, which is incredibly pathetic. I can’t help it sometimes though. I just really want it and I don’t want to wait, but I have to. I suppose that’s why I feel like this, when you’re a kid everyone always says that when you’re older you can ‘do this’ or ‘have that’, so waiting is making me feel like a kid! Ughh, it’s so frustrating!

Anyhoo… onto something else that is unfair! Did you guys watch Carte Blanche last night? Did you see that Eskom shit? Seriously… it is just so unbelievable and incredibly scary. When that one guy said that all-in-all it is going to add up to a 500% increase on electricity, I thought I might scream. I still live at home so this doesn’t effect me as much as it should but it will when I move out and I just think of all the people who really, really can’t afford this. I mean I don’t know many people who can afford it! It is just going to cause problems and make the inflation rate increase exponentially which is something we really don’t need. The majority of the people in this counry are struggling enough!

Ok… enough depressing topics. It must be the Monday blues or just having to wake up this morning when I feel like this….

Me - this fine Monday morning....

Me - this fine Monday morning....

I hope everyone is having a much better start to the day! :)

Broken Brain Syndrome Revisited

I often check my stats to see who visits the site and some times I come across weird things that people have googled and landed up at my site. The most recent weird one was “what is broken brain syndrome”

Seriously… I have a post, written a while back, where I mention having ‘broken brain syndrome’. My friend and I came up with the term in varsity. I decribe it in my post as ‘a case of unexplainable, irrational, anger, frustration and doubt towards significant other.’ Our brains work the same. We tend to have very similar thoughts about things, so after great consideration, many long discussions and loads of ranting sessions, we realized the way we felt was the same and dubbed it ‘broken brain syndrome.’ It was an easy thing to say where we both just understand. (We also came up with the term “Brain Fry”, which is totally different and can be described as an overload of information to the brain which results in an incapability to think straight.)

Anyway, so when I saw the search I was fascinated and googled it myself. Only to find that it is an actual disorder! There is even a book written by Charles L. Dickens called “The Broken Brain Syndrome” which you cn find on the webite, http://www.brokenbrainsyndrome.net.

So I just want to clarify and say that my ‘Broken Brain Syndrome’ is completely different to theirs. I am not crazy – well at least not in that sense :)
